A few months ago the Versus Mode DLC pack was released for Resident Evil 5 which added nothing more than new multiplayer game modes which had players pitting themselves against zombies and eachother. After said DLC was released gamers everywhere whined about how Capcom was charging for a feature that “should have” been included in the original game.

Lucky for them, Xbox Live is cutting the price of the pack to 240 Microsoft Points from 400 Micrsoft Points as their latest Deal of the Week.

Still don’t want to pay for new game modes? Well, that’s up to you.

The download clocks in at 581MB and can be downloaded at NZone.

Seeing as Resident Evil 4 was originally a GameCube exclusive, fans can only wonder why Resident Evil 5 still hasn’t been released for Nintendo’s successor console. Graphical limitations aside, the gameplay formula would still work great, pointing to Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition as proof. Speaking to games™ magazine, Capcom Chief Producer Masachika Kawata was asked whether the popular survival horror game would be released for the Wii.

“Hypothetically speaking, the Resident Evil 4 engine would work perfectly for replicating the gameplay but we would never be able to recreate the graphical quality” Kawata explained. “A gun shooting game like Darkside Chronicles makes much more sense for Wii so, in short, Resident Evil 5 Wii Edition isn’t likely to happen.”

With that said, Kawata also mentioned that he was impressed by Cavia’s work on Darkside Chronicles, and said that Resident Evil 5 could be a possibility after all. Even though the game might not look as pretty as it does on the 360 or PS3, it would be interesting to see how the game would play out on the Wii.

Resident Evil 5 was released a little over 2 months ago and recieved generally positive feedback from the critics but we were left in the dark in terms of sales numbers until now — During the Reuters Global Technology Summit held in Tokyo last week Capcom CFO Kazuhiko Abe made a statement that the game has sold around 4.9 million copies since its March 13th release date.

About 4.4 million, Abe says, were sold during the game’s release month with the additional ~500,00 being sold in April. Despite being a rather huge drop in sales Capcom apparently expected it saying they only plan to sell another ~500,000 copies through March 31st, 2010.

Kotaku notes the fact that games with a “hardcore, existing audience” such as Resident Evil 5 sell well in their first few months but once all said hardcore fans actually purchase it sales drop dramatic amounts. Now I’m just hoping to see Resident Evil 5 for like $20 at Gamestop, then I’ll be happy.

All three will be sold both via retail and online digital distribution.

Also, all games have been optimized for PC and will have new features. Here’s the big deal:

Street Fighter IV
The PC version of Street Fighter IV will feature online play, higher screen resolutions and three new shaders based on three of the "artistic" trailers released in 2008 that will change the visual appearance of the game: "watercolor," "posterization" and "sumi-e ink" styles.

Bionic Commando
The PC version of Bionic Commando will support higher resolutions than the console version, remappable controls including mouse and keyboard support, support for both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 and online connectivity for multiplayer sessions.

Resident Evil 5
The PC version of Resident Evil 5 will feature online play for co-operative play sessions over the internet and will also take advantage of NVIDIA’s new GeForce 3D Vision technology (wireless 3D Vision glasses sold separately).

Sounds boring, but sign me up for some Resident Evil action on my trusty ol’ computer.

More features equal more complex coding which means there are even more things that can go wrong. Every company loves a good franchise, since they can keep churning out titles with familiar characters and a high chance of success.

Capcom just released Resident Evil 5 to happy fans everywhere and unsurprisingly there’s already people talking about the next game. Technically the ‘next game’ will be The Darkside Chronicles, the next lightgun style game for the Wii, but people are most concerned about the possibility of Resident Evil 6, the true successor to the most recent title.

Despite the near-guarantee of profitability for any new Resident Evil title, it seems that Capcom isn’t sold on making Resident Evil 6: “We haven’t decided whether we’re going to make Resident Evil 6 yet… But if we do, it could take anywhere up to eight years, but hopefully only four,” said Masachika Kawata, producer on RE5.

Not for body count, not for the most controversy for early screenshots or anything to do with the content; it’s all about the shipping. Over four million units were sent out in the very first shipment, the biggest first shipment for any game in the series. Hard numbers for the game sales are currently unavailable since it’s been out for less than a week in the western world, but given the popularity of the series, huge shipments and impressive sales figures for Japan (319,590 units sold for the PS3 and 79,157 sold for the Xbox 360) we’re likely to get confirmation soon that the game is selling excellently everywhere.

The game will likely go platinum soon (if it hasn’t already), with nearly half a million sold in the first week in Japan alone and with Capcom announcing that over forty million units for the whole series have been shipped as of now.

Capcom has recently issued a statement regarding the fact that they will be charging for the Resident Evil 5 Versus mode that we learned about earlier today:

Although Versus mode makes use of the assets that exist in the game, the functionality is not currently in the game and is above and beyond the initial scope of Resident Evil 5,” the publisher said. “We have never included a versus mode in Resident Evil before, and as well as the costs of development of the feature, there’s also additional bandwidth costs associated with it.

So basically they are saying that since it’d never been in the game before, and it wasn’t originally on the drawing board it’s ok to charge for it. I guess it makes sense…

But, if Resident Evil 5’s matchmaking is going to be anything like Street Fighter IV’s, I’ll save my 5 bucks.

While they did not specify anything, it can be pointed out that the company recently promised Joystiq that fans of Resident Evil and the Wii “will be very happy very soon” although RE5 is being released on PS3 and Xbox 360.

The guy who made the promise – product manager Matt Dahlgren – further teased that March 12 (this Thursday) would make fans of Resident Evil: Code Veronica “very pleased”, adding that it won’t be a PSN or XBLA remake.

That’s not a guarantee that we will see a Code Veronica remake coming our way, but hell, why not? The game was released back in 2000 on the Dreamcast.

Considering the game’s graphics, probably not. However, when asked why there is no Wii version of Resident Evil 5, Capcom’s Associate Product Marketing Manager, Matt Dahlgren, responded with the following: “It was made for the Xbox 360 and PS3. That being said, Nintendo Wii fans will be very happy very soon.”

Happy very soon, huh? Well, Mr. Dahlgren what ever does that mean?

Since he said that Resident Evil 5 was made for the PS3 and Xbox 360, that pretty effectively squashes the chance of the Wii seeing it. Therefore, we can only be led to believe that the Wii will be getting it’s own exclusive Resident Evil title.

We’ll keep you posted.

But why? Well, since the Elite is priced significantly higher than the lower tier models, consumer demand has dropped due to the economy leading retailers to be less fond of the SKU.

When I say they will be returned to limited availability, I mean that Microsoft will take advantage of it’s marketability and use it to coincide with the release of games like they did with Resident Evil 5.

While this is still just a rumor it seems completely plausible.
