Ascaron: We are still around and working on Sacred 2 expansion
What with most of Ascaron’s assets being sold off to Kalypso and its employees forming a new studio, it is surprising that Ascaron is still around – the studio confirmed that it is still working on the PC expansion of Sacred 2.
“In a nutshell, the Addon is not affected by anything and will come as planned,” wrote Ascaron’s Anca Adelina Finta. In fact, she wrote this after the license deal was revealed earlier this month; the news was overlooked by many due to E3.
"Studio 2 (subsidiary company of Ascaron) has the licence for Sacred 2 and the devs will continue working at the Addon as they did before," she added. "Kalypso and the other devs will do something different with the old licences they bought."
However, the company is yet to offer any word on the fate of Sacred 3.
Sacred Developer Falls, Interested in Being Taken Over
Following word that the game had gone gold for consoles, Sacred 2 developer Ascaron Entertainment announced that it has filed for bankruptcy protection and is now in “negotiations with several well-known interested parties to discuss a positive takeover.”
“After four years developing Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, an extended development delay made it necessary for Ascaron to go into administration,” the studio explained. It noted that the development team is currently working on an expansion as well as a sequel.
The company will temporary continue operations though it is incapable of repaying its debts.
"Due to the protection offered by German administration rights, Ascaron intends to use this as an opportunity to secure the future of the company," the company noted.
Sacred 2 players need not worry, as the servers and services for the game’s multiplayer modes are unaffected and will continue as usual.
Sacred 2 Gone Gold for Consoles
You’ll soon be hopping about on your Royal Bengal Tiger, as CDV has announced that the Xbox 360 version of Sacred 2: Fallen Angel has gone gold. It is set for release on May 12.
Released on PC last November, the action-RPG game features a massive open world to let players roam about and kill the native fantastical creatures for loot. Talk about poaching!
Quite conspicuously, the PS3 version wasn’t announced gold, but that version is coming out on May 12, too.
Sacred 2 Encourages Sharing the Game
Hoping to appeal to more gamers, Ascaron and CDV announced that owners of the PC version of Sacred 2, which is due out on November 11, will be able to share the full game with friends and family for one calendar day.
Recipients will be allowed access to the full game in both LAN and single-player modes, though multiplayer modes won’t be available. If impressed enough, players will be able to unlock the game through an online purchase.
"This innovative digital rights management solution raises the bar on how consumers can sample games before they buy them," said CDV marketing director Mario Kroll. "Rather than showcasing only a limited character or content selection, as most traditional demos do, gamers can share and enjoy the full game experience, trying out the features that most appeal to them, and getting a true sense of the full game."
Sacred 2 Gets Definitive Date
Following word of a delay, Atari today announced that it will distributed Sacred 2: Fallen Angel in North America, with the PC version due out November 11. The console versions will be released February 17, 2009.
The multiplayer-oriented action-RPG was originally set to hit retailers early this year, but was first delayed to September and finally to November.
Both PC and console versions will feature online cooperative, with the console versions also packing offline two-player coop.
Sacred 2 Delayed on Consoles
Eurogamer carries word that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Sacred 2 have been delayed to Q1 2009. The PC version is still expected for release on November 7. No reason was given for the delay.
The site also carries details of the Collector’s edition of the upcoming action-RPG. Those who get it will be treated to an in-game Carrier Imp that carries your equipment and treasure around.
A PC demo of the game has also been released, offering a sample lasting about five hours.
