Monkey Island now on App Store

After all the teasing by LucasArts, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition has finally hit the App Store today. This means you can download the game for both the iPhone and iPod Touch.

According to the publisher, the portable version has the same improvements as the Xbox Live and PC versions of the game, including new visuals, voice acting, etc. I’m sure that there will be a few minor differences between the ports, seeing as the iPhone OS capability isn’t as powerful as its counterparts, but it’s still the game we all love.

You can download Monkey Island for $7.99.

Monkey Island coming to iPhone?

July 10th, 2009 1 Comment   Posted in Adventure, Apple, Rumor

LucasArts recently announced that The Secret of Monkey Island would be seeing a remake and be heading the Xbox Live Arcade and Steam platforms. However, today we find that the game may also be hitting iPhones. LucasArts’ Twitter page reveals an iPhone sized Monkey Island wallpaper, with the text:

For our Monkey fans – an iPhone sized wallpaper. No reason. Wink wink nod nod.”

This can pretty much be interpreted as confirmation for a Monkey Island debut for the iPhone, but due to Apple’s terms of services, developers are not allowed to formally announce software until it has gone gold.

If you can’t wait for more details on the iPhone version, you can grab the XBLA or Steam releases on the 15th.

Monkey Island Coming To Consoles

In addition to having their hands in every Star Wars game ever made, LucasArts has some original properties that have nothing to do with lightsabers, bathrobe-clad keepers of the peace and aliens both annoying and endearing. One series involved pirates, a smidgen of swashbuckling and a boatload of humor: the adventures of wanna-be buccaneer Guybrush Threepwood and his friends/enemies/random other comic relief characters.

Originally it was a PC adventure series of the old fashioned point-and-click variety, with some simple inventory puzzles. The games ranged from simple 2-D pixellated art to 3-D extravaganzas with voice acting and music. Now the classic series is being brought back in a two-pronged sales attack. First there’s an entirely new, episodic series being brought to the PC and WiiWare called Tales of Monkey Island. The first of five episodes will be released in the next few weeks with Guybrush Threepwood accidentally unleashing a voodoo pox in his battle against his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck.

Later this summer The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition will be released for the Xbox 360 and PC. It’ll feature the same storyline as the original with the benefit of upgraded HD visuals, soundtrack, voice acting and a hint system.
