The Office of Film and Literature Classification has reversed its banning of Konami’s survival horror Silent Hill: Homecoming in Australia. The game’s rating has been revised to fit the standards for an MA15+ rating. The board mainly had objections with the game’s content involving “high-impact violence, copious blood spray, decapitations, partial corpse dismemberment, and depictions of torture”.

It really won’t be the same without a few of these elements, namely head decapitations, but it’s much better than having the title behind bars. It is unknown what date the game will be reaching Australian shores, which is for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

PC Homecoming Delayed

Ditching PC gamers in the cold once again, the Windows version of Silent Hill: Homecoming, which was due to come out on Steam two days ago, has been delayed.

An official post from Valve’s Mike Dunkle on the Steam forums notes that the PC game won’t be available until later this month. No reason was given for the delay.

Silent Hill: Homecoming is currently available on PS3 and Xbox 360; Europe will get it soon, too.

Toned Down Homecoming in Australia

Effectively neutering the whole experience of playing Silent Hill: Homecoming, Atari, which publishes the game in Australia, has announced that it hopes to get the violence modified by publisher Konami so that it can be classified and released in the region during Q1 2009.

Apparently, Australia’s ratings body found “several high impact scenes” in the game, mostly focusing on scenes depicting “drilling into and severing body parts” to be disturbing.

North America and Europe are getting the drill-filled version of the game, with the former getting it today in retail stores and Steam, and the latter some time later.

Australia is at top when it comes to video game censorship. Keeping that trend up, The Age of Melbourne, Australia, reports that Silent Hill: Homecoming, the upcoming entry in the horror franchise, has been refused classification by Australia’s Office of Film and Literature Classification, meaning that the game won’t be available for sale unless it is changed from its current form.

This is the fourth game to be banned this year, including, most recently, Fallout 3, which got banned due to drug use within the game world.

Homecoming is set to head to stores in North America this month, with an European release in November. It may be released in Australia following needed changes.

Silent Hill: Homecoming Only on Steam

Pulling off an unexpected and surprising move, Konami has announced that North American gamers will be able to get the PC version of Silent Hill: Homecoming exclusively through Steam in the region; Europe will see a normal retail release.

No reason was given for the decision. The game arrives in North America next month on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360; Europe gets it in November.

Silent Hill: Homecoming Delayed, Not Delayed; PC Getting Simultaneous Release

Shacknews reports that Silent Hill: Homecoming, the seventh entry in the venerable series, has been delayed from September to November. But then the site carries word from Konami’s US branch that the game is still due out in September in the region, with the site speculating that the November delay is applicable only to Europe.

Konami also announced that the PC edition will ship alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. It will be identical to its console brethren and will also be made available through Steam.
