Sony’s latest financial numbers show that the “Networked Products and Services”, which include console hardware and software sales, reporter an operating loss of over $650 million, but over the PS3s lifespan, the total losses for the console are a staggering $4.7 billion. Now you know why there aren’t more consoles on the market, when a brand like “PlayStation” can lose billions over a period of a few years.

Last month we learned that the PSP title SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 would be hitting store shelves on November 24rd. Today, Sony has announced that the game is getting a delay to January 12th, 2010. But what gives?

Producer Mark Rogers says that the delay will give them more time to properly market the game and give it the proper attention it deserves. Then again, they probably just don’t want to release it in the same month as Modern Warfare 2.

This day, nine years ago, Sony launched what would become the best selling console of all time, the PlayStation 2. On the 9th anniversary of the launch, Sony revealed the staggering sales numbers: 140 million units sold worldwide, beating out the DS and GameBoy, with 120 million and 108 million units sold, respectively.

What’s even more amazing, is that some 10,000 (yes, ten thousand) games have been released for the PS2, developed by over 450 different developers, and there have been sold over half a billion PS2 games in the US alone. Wow.

It seems that the head honcho of independent game retailer Chips isn’t too confident in the future of the PSP Go in fact, he thinks its going to hit rock bottom faster than Sony expects.

I’m 99.9 percent sure it’s going to fail miserably, in which case it’s going to put back other potential people coming into the digital space

Well, if we’ve learned anything from Sony’s past hardware (PS3) we know that they sometimes have some pretty slow launches. Perhaps the PSP Go will defy the odds and come out on top? Only time will tell.

Sony has recently sent a memo to IGN that has effecitvely let the entire internet know that come October 1st the Playstation Store will have 16,000 peices of DLC for use with the brand new PSP Go.

If you’re scratching your head at this number, Sony breaks it down into several catagories: they will have 225 full downloadable games (PSP Minis, full PSP titles, PSN titles etc.) in addition to 2,300 movies and 13,300 TV episodes.

Sure, the number got a bit of a boost from the TV episodes but it is in fact 16,000 pieces of DLC which is all that matters. Now we’ll just have to see if another actually wants the PSP Go, right?

This means you’ll be able to link up with 2-4 players and progress through the game’s campaign wirelessly.

Considering the community behind the SOCOM franchise this most likely won’t be the last Fireteam Bravo PSP title we’ll be seeing.

Red Steel 2 is shaping up to be a great game but just how many people will get the chance to play it remains unknown considering it is being released on only one console; the Wii. Sure, the Wii has sold ridiculous amounts of consoles but it’s generally hypothesized that the majority of those sales were to the casual players. Considering Red Steel 2 is what some would call a “hardcore” game, it would only make sense that Ubisoft would bring it to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 but that wasn’t a possibility up until both Microsoft and Sony announced their own motion controllers.

Well, it seems that Joystiq recently sat down with the creative director of Red Steel 2, Jason VanderBerghe, and questioned him of the possibility of seeing the title appear on other consoles. He responded that he would love to see the Red Steel franchise appear on other consoles but ultimately the decision would be up to Ubisoft.

Red Steel 3 with Project Natal? Count me in.

One of the biggest gripes gamers usually have against the PSP is its lack of a strong game library. However, if recent reports are to be believed Sony may have a few tricks up their sleeve to remedy that.

One of those tricks is the possibility of free PSP Minis developer kits which would give a much larger group of developers access to the service. News comes to us from a recent interview done with Sony Europe’s Zeno Colaco where he was questioned about the possibility of a free dev kit, to which he responded:

“Further down the line, we may investigate a totally free model or supported model.”

However, Colaco says, having a free dev kit isn’t all peaches:

“There are dangers in having total open access; having six thousand applications where probably only thirty are discovered by the consumer. Some of the developers working on the App Store and PSP Minis tell us that they prefer our approach because they get more visibility.”

It was previously only speculated why it was left out, but today Sony gives a reason behind their move; money.

“The reasons are simple: The PS3 Slim is a major cost reduction involving many changes to hardware components in the PS3 design,” SCEE’s Sarah Ewen said. “In order to offer the OtherOS install, SCE would need to continue to maintain the OtherOS hypervisor drivers for any significant hardware changes – this costs SCE.”

Ewen continues on to say that the main objective behind the Slim is to offer a lower price, and the cost of OtherOS did not meet the standards to lower the price.

Be sure to read up on our review of the PlayStation 3 Slim in case you’re still on the fence about buying it.
