If you thought Capcom was going to be nice and give you downloadable characters for Street Fighter IV, you were wrong. Today, the developer has announced Super Street Fighter IV, a tweaked and improved standalone version of SF4 with 8 additional characters.

Of these characters just 3 have been officially confirmed: T. Hawk, Dee Jay and Juri. Fans of the Street Fighter franchise will recognize T. Hawk and Dee Jay from previous titles while Juri is an all new character.

As for a release date, we’re looking at Spring 2010 for both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, with no mention of a PC release date.

Of course, as of right now we have nothing more than whats featured on the teaser website which is just a small video including the screenshot shown above. We’re going to assume that this “new warrior” is an all new Street Fighter character to be offered through Xbox Live, the PSN and through Capcom’s official website for the PC.

We’ll keep you posted as more information is made known.

All three will be sold both via retail and online digital distribution.

Also, all games have been optimized for PC and will have new features. Here’s the big deal:

Street Fighter IV
The PC version of Street Fighter IV will feature online play, higher screen resolutions and three new shaders based on three of the "artistic" trailers released in 2008 that will change the visual appearance of the game: "watercolor," "posterization" and "sumi-e ink" styles.

Bionic Commando
The PC version of Bionic Commando will support higher resolutions than the console version, remappable controls including mouse and keyboard support, support for both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 and online connectivity for multiplayer sessions.

Resident Evil 5
The PC version of Resident Evil 5 will feature online play for co-operative play sessions over the internet and will also take advantage of NVIDIA’s new GeForce 3D Vision technology (wireless 3D Vision glasses sold separately).

Sounds boring, but sign me up for some Resident Evil action on my trusty ol’ computer.

The Replay Mode on the other hand allows users to record and download other players matches so you’ll be able to relive that clutch Super Combo over and over.

Again, the Power Up Pack has been available for a few days and is free for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

"Let’s say summer," stated Capcom business development VP Christian Svensson when asked about the PC release. He noted that the recent arcade sticks and pads produced by Mad Catz are compatible on PC; Capcom is also discussing a PC specific gamepad bundle.

Svensson seemed very happy with the console versions of the game, which he noted are “exceeding forecasts” and “on track to do some pretty amazing things.”

The company noted that “first week sales in North America have been unbelievable – just wait until you see the figures [by] NPD next month!” No regional breakdown of sales was given, though Capcom claimed that the title was sold out at retailers in Japan.

It is now available on PS3 and Xbox 360; a PC version is due out eventually, but no release date has been mentioned yet.

Stores in Japan have apparently run completey dry in terms of Street Fighter IV as reported on the Capcom-Unity blog:

There ARE no more copies to sell on the store shelves. I heard from Ono-san himself last night that Capcom has a few boxes left in the basement that they’ll be sending out on Monday, but they were totally overwhelmed by the demand.

So there you have it; If you had any doubts that there was only a small market left for Street Fighter IV, your doubts can now be put to rest. But will it sell as well in the USA as it did in Japan?

I guess we’ll have to wait until the game’s February 17th Xbox 360 and PS3 release date to find out.
