It was a good idea, except for the fact that they’re all available for an even lower price online in the original disc format. As you might imagine Microsoft hasn’t been seeing quite the high sales from this offering they had initially hoped for.

They’ve announced that there’s only one game left for the Xbox Originals service. After that gets posted Microsoft will leave the games available for purchase of course but will be focusing their efforts in other directions. They haven’t announced exactly what the game is, but smart money of course points at Halo 2. With Microsoft having abandoned backwards compatibility updates some time ago this means that to play any neglected favorites you’ll have to go out and find a used Xbox. Hey, at least those don’t have any RRoD issues.

In truth it was the only real hook of the game; the storyline was just your standard renegade cop revenge story. The real joy of it came in going into slow-motion “Bullet Time” dives and blasting away at hordes of thugs before they can barely react.

Both Max Payne and Max Payne 2 have been brought to the Xbox Live Originals page. Each game is available for 1200 Microsoft points, or fifteen dollars. Unfortunately for Microsoft both of these games are on the backwards compatibility list and could probably be purchased for less than $15 for the both of them used.

This points to the likely release of the games on either Xbox Live Arcade or through the downloadable Xbox Originals program, seeing as how they were both released for the Xbox. Through this, the games can be played on a Xbox 360 using backwards compatibility.

Rockstar and Take-Two are yet to confirm the report. Max Payne 3 arrives this winter on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

To the displeasure of many, Microsoft has recently announced that the latest edition to the Xbox Originals service is going to be none other than BlowOut. Wait, what?

I regard myself as a pretty well-read gamer, so when Microsoft announced a game I’ve barely even heard of was coming to the Xbox Originals service, I was pretty surprised.

For those who don’t know what it is, Wikipedia lists it as a run-and-gun game similar to Contra or Metal Slug that was released on January 23rd, 2004 developed by Terminal Reality. Doesn’t sound too bad.

Any who, the game’s out on the service for 1200 Microsoft points or about $15.

Coming from the creators of Mercenaries, the Pandemic-produced DAH has players controlling an alien who sets out to conquer Earth. The game is heavily influenced by sci-fi B movies and lets players anally probe humans, among other things.

Intellivision Lives! is a game compilation from Real Time Associates, packing in over 60 games from the classic game console from the early 1980s. It also includes a virtual museum of original Intellivision commercials, facts and interviews with the system’s creators.

To be available this Monday, the games will sell for 1200 Microsoft points ($15) each.
